This series contains seven microfilm reels of Division of American Missions publications. Publications were filmed together by department and or subject. The first three reels in the collection, for the most part, contain general publications of the Division. In addition, reel two contains copies of the American Lutheran Church publication, The Lutheran Banner (1947-1950), which regards the ALC Negro Missions activities which were taken over by the NLC in 1951. Departmental publications in this category have been indicated where possible. Reels three and four contain Office for Human Relations and Department for the Christian Approach to the Jewish People publications. Reels four and five include Department of Church in Town and Country and reels five through seven contain those of the Office of Urban Church. Planning. In addition, the series contains four boxes of general publications of the Division in paper form. These publications, in some cases, are duplicates of those on the microfilm. Those which have not been microfilmed Include informational booklets concerning the Division and a geographical directory outlining locations of NLC and Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod churches by city and state (1950). In 1958, the Division of American Missions published a "County By County Church Distribution Study Related to the Lutheran Churches" which was based on research provided by the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA Church Distribution Study (1957). Both studies are included in the series.
